'Grey's Anatomy' ABC Season 11 Gets Two Episodes Added for a Total of 24
"Grey's Anatomy" Season 11 is currently airing on Thursday nights on ABC. While they are filming future episodes, they have received the word from ABC that they are extending the popular series for two more episodes. This brings the current season to 24 total episodes.
ABC also extended their Wednesday night comedies "Modern Family", "The Middle", "The Goldbergs" and "Black-ish" by two episodes each, with new comedy "Black-ish" ordered for a back nine more, bringing all four comedies to 24 total episodes. "Castle" also will add one additional episode, bringing their season totals to 23.
Showrunner Shonda Rhimes opened up to THR about Ellen Pompeo's character Meredith for Season 11.
"It's really a Meredith-centric season. There's a lot of growth. She's lost her person. Her sister has showed up. Her husband is chafing to go someplace else. She's got all these things going on. Maybe that's the theme, maybe it's independence. But for me right now, it feels like it's Meredith. I'm feeling her more acutely because she's lost her person," shared Rhimes.
"Grey's Anatomy" Season 11 added actress Caterina Scorsone full time as Amelia Shepherd to the cast. She made appearances last season as Derek Shepherd's (Patrick Dempsey) sister, but has decided to make Seattle her home calling off her engagement with her fiancé in Los-Angeles. Maggie Pierce will also be joining the team of doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital as Meredith's sister and Ellis' daughter.
"Grey's Anatomy" became one of the most popular shows on television when it aired in 2005 after a few down years recently the show ranked No. 15 in the 2013-2014 season and also re-entered the top five shows in the 18-49 viewer demographic durings it's tenth season.
"Grey's Anatomy" Season 11 premiered on Thursday night, September 25th on ABC.
