Avatar 2 News, Rumors and Updates: Movie Sequels to be Shot Back-to-Back but are Still in Pre-Production Stages
In 2009 James Cameron proved that Titanic was in no way a onetime thing. The Avatar director beat his own box office record that he set with Titanic. The film that made extensive use of motion capture filming and was converted to 3D made a massive 2.7 billion dollars at the box office. It is no wonder that Cameron has gone mum about the sequel he is probably waiting for technology to catch up like he did with the first installment. From the onset it was clear that it would be a trilogy. In 2006 he stated that he would only embark on the sequels if the first one was a success. In 2010 when it became clear that it was a smash hit he confirmed he would be doing them and it was later confirmed that it would be four movies and not three as previously stated. The movie is funded by Light-storm Entertainment which is his own company and 20th Century Fox.
This movie will explore more of Pandora, especially the seas and whatever is left of the rain Forests. As if to confirm this Cameron who also happens to be an explorer has been taking shots in the deep sea. He also seeks to explore the other moons of Polyphemus. Cameron has been tight lipped about the movie with very few details filtering through. Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington have already signed on for the sequels so their parts are good and secured. Cameron is set to shoot in New Zealand and rumors are rife that he is looking for Native Americans and native New Zealanders to act parts as they almost share a history with Na'vi. They are also a people in touch with the land and New Zealanders share a special relationship with the sea.
The movies are set to be shot back to back and are still in the pre production stage. The projected 2016 date is clearly not going to be achievable considering the amount of post production work needed and the fact that he wants to shoot in HFR which was also used in The Hobbit. A realistic date would be in 2018. Cameron plans on shooting in the deep sea and has already acquired the machinery to do so.
