Watch Pentatonix's Video "Mary Did You Know" as They Celebrate Their Most Successful Album Yet
One of the most haunting versions of the Christmas song "Mary Did You Know" is delivered by a cappella group Pentatonix. They also have their highest charting album yet (and biggest sales week ever) as That's Christmas To Me rises 8-3 on Billboard 200 with 99,000 (up 193 percent).
Pentatonix (often abbreviated as PTX) is an American a cappella group of five vocalists originating from Arlington, Texas. Their work, mostly in, but not limited to, the pop music style, consists of covers of pre-existing songs and some original material, sometimes in the form of medleys. Their music is defined by their own arrangement style, a strong presence of low bass vocals, and a diverse range of vocal percussions.
Pentatonix formed in 2011 and came to prominence the same year by winning the third season of The Sing-Off on NBC, their victory earning them $200,000 and a recording contract with Sony.[4][5] Their debut EP PTX, Volume 1 was released the following year, followed by PTXmas the same year, with their third release, PTX, Vol. II, debuting number 1 on the Independent Albums section of the Billboard 200 in 2013. 2014 saw the release of PTX, Vol. III, and their two first full-length albums, PTX, Vols. 1 & 2 (a compilation of Vol. 1 and Vol. II) and That's Christmas to Me. They have sold over 500,000 records.
That's Christmas To Me is one of three holiday albums in new the top 10, as it is joined by Michael Buble's Christmas (13-9 with 35,000; up 34 percent) and Idina Menzel's Holiday Wishes (16-10 with 33,000 in its sixth chart week; up 39 percent). Holiday Wishes is Menzel's first top 10 album, and happens to feature a duet with Buble. As for Buble, his 2011 Christmas album is a former No. 1 (it spent five weeks atop the list in late 2011 and early 2012), and has returned to the top 10 in each successive holiday season.
