Jay Carty, Former NBA Player & Evangelist, Passes Away

On May 4th, shortly after noon, former NBA player and well-known West coast evangelist Jay Carty passed away. His wife, children and grandchildren sat by his side as he entered the Lord's presence. He was 75 years-old.
Carty was a basketball player. He played collegiately for Oregon State University, and was selected by the St. Louis Hawks in the 6th round (48th pick overall) of the 1962 NBA draft. He played for the Los Angeles Lakers (1968-69) in the National Basketball Association for 28 games.
Following basketball and a time in the business world, Jay directed a Christian conference center, was a church consultant with Churches Alive and in 1982 began Yes! Ministries, an organization dedicated to helping people say "yes!" to God. Jay crosses denominations and relates to a changing contemporary society as well as a broad range of age groups. Jay has spoken in churches, colleges, schools and retreat centers across the country. Jay and Mary make their home in Santa Barbara. They have two grown children.
Carty was diagnosed with myeloma cancer and more recently lymphoma. The family, seeking God's direction, believing and contending for healing, also pursued the best of medical care. He had ived these past years and recent months in peace that his future and eternity is entirely in the Lord's hands.
Last year, he explained to his congregation why he thought his cancer was the best gift God ever gave him. In his message, Carty said, "It's my experience that time and trust will get you to worth it, meaning it will be worth it after enough time and trust."
