Japan vs Greece 2014 World Cup Match Watch LIVE Online Here
2014 FIFA World Cup again continues today with Japan vs Greece at 6pm Eastern time. Both teams have lost in their Group so far, Japan losing to Ivory Coast and Greece falling to Columbia. Columbia and Ivory Coast play today as well. You can watch the 2014 World Cup games live online on ESPN HERE.
Japan came into the tournament as underdogs but have been playing exciting, high-tempo soccer since Alberto Zaccheroni took over as coach four years ago. He has begin to maximize the strong technical skill of their best attacking players, making them one of the most fast and pressing teams. Now their backs are up against the wall, with the loss to Ivory Coast, and they must beat Greece to stand any realistic chance of progressing into the knockout stages.
The Greece squad is led by Fernando Santos who had a poor showing in their opening match against Colombia. They lost 3-0 and didn't give the Los Cafeteros' goalkeeper David Ospina much work all game. Greece is now looking like one of the weakest teams in the tournament and are not favored in their match today against Japan either.
Santos could too make changes for todays game, including the introduction of Fulham striker Konstantinos Mitroglou. He had an injury-plagued half-season at Fulham, but still could pose as a better option than the ageing veteran Theofanis Gekas. Genoa winger Ioannis Fetfatzidis could also displace Dimitris Salpingidis after looking good in the second half of the Colombia match.
Japan should have enough attacking talent and defensive scheme to move past an Greece.
Projected lineups:
Japan (4-2-3-1): Eiji Kawashima; Yuto Nagatomo, Maya Yoshida, Masato Morishige, Atsuto Uchida; Hotaru Yamaguchi, Makoto Hasebe; Shinji Kagawa, Keisuke Honda, Shinji Okazaki; Yūya Ōsako.
Greece (4-3-3): Orestis Karnezis; José Holebas, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Kostas Manolas, Vasilis Torosidis; Panagiotis Kone, Kostas Katsouranis, Giannis Maniatis; Georgios Samaras, Konstantinos Mitroglou, Dimitris Salpingidis.
