Faith-Based Movie "Overcomer" a Big Hit at the Box Office

Sony and Affirm's OVERCOMER opened this weekend strong at the Box office. Despite stiff competition from big movies such as Angel Has Fallen and Hobbs & Shaw, the faith-based movie managed to open at #3 bringing in an income of $8.2 million.
OVERCOMER is a sports-based movie with Christian themes directed by the Kendrick Brothers. Not only did the film do well at the box office, it also earned a rare A+ CinemaScore. At a production cost of only $5 million, Overcomer has already cleared the bar for production with its first weekend in theaters.
Written and directed by and starring Alex Kendrick, the faith-based movie is about a high school coach whose faith becomes tested as he mentors a troubled teen. Audiences approved with an A+ CinemaScore but critics responded with a 33% "rotten" rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
OVERCOMER is the sixth movie from the Kendrick Brothers, and their first film since the No. 1 box-office hit, WAR ROOM, which earned more than $67 million at the box office. The WAR ROOM soundtrack also sold more than 60,000 copies. Filled with a powerful mix of faith, a twist of humor, and a ton of heart, the Kendrick Brothers return to theaters with OVERCOMER, their newest feature following FACING THE GIANTS, FIREPROOF, COURAGEOUS, and the No. 1 box-office hit, WAR ROOM. The inspiring family film stars Alex Kendrick, Priscilla Shirer, Shari Rigby, Cameron Arnett, and introduces Aryn Wright-Thompson.
