Ginny Owens Reveals How Her New Song Ended Up on TGC's 20th Anniversary Album

Ginny Owens' song "My Need (A Great Savior)" was among the winners of The Gospel Coalition's "What Is the Gospel?" song contest. The song is also featured in TGC's 20th anniversary album etitled The Gospel Is. You can stream "My Need (A Great Savior)" NOW on Spotify, Apple Music, or wherever you stream your music.
Owens reveals how the song came about. "Last year, The Gospel Coalition released a call for musicians to create a song based on the theme, "What is the gospel?" The goal was to write a song so compelling that it would draw people into the beauty of the gospel - both believers and seekers alike.
"Working with my long-time collaborator Tony Wood, we were inspired by the Charles Spurgeon quote: "I have a great need for Christ; I have a great Christ for my need." With that, the song "My Need" came to life. We submitted it to the TGC contest and waited to see what would happen. And I guess what?!
"I am thrilled to share with you all that The Gospel Coalition is featuring "My Need" on their 20th Anniversary album, titled "The Gospel Is" - which is OUT NOW!"
Owens is known for her soulful blend of pop, rock, and Christian music. Born in Jackson, Mississippi, Ginny lost her sight at a young age due to a degenerative eye disease, but her love for music flourished as she developed an extraordinary ability to play the piano and sing. She gained national attention with her debut album, Ginny Owens, which included the hit single "If You Want Me To," a song that showcased her powerful voice and reflective, faith-filled lyrics.
Over the years, Ginny has continued to release acclaimed albums, earning multiple Dove Award nominations and a dedicated fanbase. Her music is marked by themes of grace, hope, and resilience, drawing from her own experiences and faith journey.
