Amy Grant, 'How Mercy Looks From Here,' Extends Her Record For Most No. 1 Christian Albums
Amy Grant's new album, 'How Mercy Looks From Here,' debuts at No.1 on the Billboard Christian Albums chart and ultimately allowed her to extend her record for most leading albums, 16, in chart history.
Starting at No. 12 on the Billboard 200 chart, and selling over 26,000 copies so far, 'How Mercy Looks From Here,' has become Grant's highest charting album since 'Behind the Eyes,' in 1997, Billboard reports.
The album marks Grant's first full length album in ten years and features musicians such as James Taylor, Carole King, Eric Paslay, Will Hoge and her husband, Vince Gill. The album was inspired by her mother, who passed away in April of 2011.
"Amy Grant has delivered a beautiful record of compelling songs that document her life experiences over the past decade since her last studio record," said Peter York President, Capitol CMG Label Group, according to Christian Post Entertainment. "It's an authentic album of songs she's written that allow the listener to peer deeply into her heart and connect emotionally with her journey. It must be heard to be appreciated and I would encourage all to taste and see."
One big hit song on the album is the first single entitled, 'Don't Try So Hard,' featuring James Taylor on vocals. It has climbed as high as No. 25 on the charts. "People have asked in the past, 'Who would you sing with if you could?' And I've always said, Well I don't know, just whatever happens. But I felt very intentional inviting these guests. Mostly because I love their work, but also because I felt like what they brought to the table creatively was exactly what that song needed," Grant said in an interview withBreatheCast.
Grant has been involved in an extensive press and radio tour in recent weeks meeting with CBS 'This Morning,' NPR's 'Weekend Edition,' People.com, MSNBC's 'Morning Joe,' MOR's 'Radio with Rita Cosby,' FUSE NEWS and Lifetime's 'The Balancing Act,' the Christian Post reports. In addition, she met with the Billboard magazine editors to speak about the new album and perform two new songs on May 24.
Grant also tweeted on May 30 about an interview she was set to do early on May 31 saying, "Tomorrow, I'm stopping by the set of Tennessee Mornings on Fox Nashville for a performance/interview around 8:00 am CST. Hope you can watch!" She is also set perform at the Grand Ole Opry on May 31 and will appear on ABC's 'The View' on June 20 and 'The Chew' on July 19.
