The Evil Within Release Date, Gameplay, and News: One Hour Gameplay Released by Bethesda
The Evil Within is an upcoming survival horror videogame, and it also marks the return of Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami to the videogame genre.
The new game was officially announced back in April 2013 with Tango Gameworks as developers and Bethesda Softworks as publishers.
The game takes place during an investigation of gruesome murders by detective Sebastian Castellanos and his partners, and they're grave encounter with an evil, mysterious, and powerful force. Players will encounter various monsters and must make a choice to either run or hide, or to confront the evil creatures that stand in their way.
With the Resident Evil franchise conceding to adapt to fast-paced action games, Shinji Mikami left the franchise after Resident Evil 4 and has directed titles such as God Hand and Vanquish that were not as well-received as his Resident Evil games. In the recent decline of the survival horror genre, Mikami hopes that this game would revitalize the interest of gamers for a more visceral gaming experience.
The Evil Within will not be the only survival horror game coming to next-gen consoles. Hideo Kojima will be bringing Silent Hills next year, and has horror fans in a frenzy due to its playable teaser that was released a couple of weeks ago. Alien: Isolation has been making quite a stir as the Alien video game franchise will try to redeem themselves from the disappointing FPS game Colonial Marines; trashing the idea of an action game, to survival horror. Until Dawn is also an upcoming survival horror game that pits players against a serial killer hunting down 8 teenagers in a log cabin, paying homage to slasher films of the 80s' and 90s'.
With the survival horror franchise being given a second chance, The Evil Within seems like an underdog with the other bigtime titles.
Last week, Bethesda Softworks released a one hour gameplay of The Evil Within with Production Designer Pete Hines.
The Evil Within is scheduled to be released October 14 for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC.
