'Madam Secretary' Latest News : 'Madam Secretary' Features Tea Leoni, Her Return To TV After 16 Years
Actress Tea Leoni plays the lead role of Elizabeth McCord in the TV series Madam Secretary. This marks Leoni's return to television after 16 years.
For Leoni, the role of McCord is a challenging role. McCord is a former CIA analyst turned college professor. She is happily married with three children but her life changes after she was asked to become the secretary of state.
The role is also the actress' first time to be back "into the public eye" after many years. She used to keep herself busy taking care of her two children, ages 12 and 15, and by helping in fundraising for UNICEF.
Leoni is best remembered as the lead in the TV series The Naked Truth. She was even proclaimed the "next big thing." But the show was cancelled after three seasons. Leoni has earned a reputation of being "selective" in the roles that she is taking. She said, "Even in the early days, I never worked back to back, because I wanted to fish or sail or travel or just take care of the house and the dogs."
Madam Secretary will start on September 21, 2014. It is a political drama that revolves around the new Secretary of State Elizabeth McCord, who is still learning the ropes of her new job. There are a lot of things going on in the show's pilot episode. It is never boring and it will not drag on. She has to deal with international political crises. For example, she has to settle the case of two American teenagers in the custody of the Syrian government, possibly facing execution.
It is obvious that Leoni is enjoying herself while doing Madam Secretary. She is enjoying the company of her co-stars and the rest of the crew during breaks. Even so, she still looks forward to finally getting the job done and doing fly fishing during weekend.
