Tye Tribbet, Mandisa Big Winners in Gospel/Contemporary Christian Categories at 2014 GRAMMY Awards
Last night marked the 56th GRAMMY Awards live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles. While acts like Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Daft Punk and Lorde dominated the secular categories, Tye Tribbett and Mandisa were big winners in the Gospel/Contemporary Christian genres.
Tribbett may have been given the best birthday present of the night taking home two GRAMMYs for his uplifting performance on his live CD Greater Than. After hearing his name called the just-turned 38-year old let out a loud, "woooo," and told the crowd, "I'm 22 on stage."
During his acceptance speech Tribbet thanked his producer but realized his flub, remembering that he produced the album himself.
"It just sounds like something you're supposed to say."
Season 5 American Idol alum Mandisa won her first GRAMMY Sunday night in the Best Contemporary Christian Music category. Written by David Garcia, Ben Glover and Christopher Stevens, the title song from her latest album Overcome had long runs at number 1 on three Billboard Christian charts.
