'The Grandmaster' Star Zhang Ziyi Wins Best Actress; 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' Co-Star Chow Yun Fat Rides Hong Kong Train In Sweatpants
"Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" star Zhang Ziyi won Best Actress at the recently concluded 14th Chinese Film Media Awards for her performance as a kung fu master in "The Grandmaster," Ecns reported.
Held in Beijing, China, the awarding ceremony was dominated by the films "The Grandmaster," "Drug War" and "Iloilo."
"Drug War" won Best Picture and its director Johnnie To won Best Director while "Iloilo" won Best Screenplay by Singapore director Anthony Chen and its actress Yeo Yann won Best Supporting Actress.
Aside from Zhang Ziyi's Best Actress award, "The Grandmaster" also won Best Supporting Actor in the person of Wang Qingxiang.
Other winners include Actor of the Year William Kong, Best New Director Hoa Jie for "The Love Songs of Tiedan," Best New Performer Sawyer Kuak for "Aspiration and War," Aarif Lee for an Outstanding Performance in "One Night Surprise," Outstanding Actress Yao Chen for "Firestorm" and the Outstanding Picture "Finding Mr. Right."
Zhang Ziyi's male counterpart was Hong Kong actor Nick Cheung who won Best Actor for his role as a former boxing champion in "Unbeatable."
Ning Hao's "No Man's Land" won Film of the Year and its star Huang Bo won Outstanding Actor but for a different film "Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons."
Meanwhile, Zhang Ziyi's "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" co-star Chow Yun Fat was spotted on a subway train in Hong Kong in support of the pro-democracy protests in the region, which is already on its third week, the Straits Times reported.
The 59-year-old action superstar was noticed to be sporting a goatee while wearing baggy sweatpants when he was on the train.
Aside from winning Best Foreign Language Film Best Director for Ang Lee at the 73rd Academy Awards, "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" also earned Zhang Ziyi a British Academy Film Awards Best Supporting Actress nomination Chow Yun Fat a Hong Kong Film Awards Best Actor nomination.
Aside from "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," Chow Yun-Fat is also known for the 2014 films "The Man from Macau" and "The Monkey King," the 2012 films "The Last Tycoon" and "The Assassins," the 2011 film "Beginning of the Great Revival."
