E- Team Documentary Release Date, Reviews and Reveals: Katy Chevigny and Ross Kauffman Directed Documentary to Premiere on Netflix on October 21st, 2014
Every year there are thousands of documentaries released; covering everything from penguins to orcas to war zones documentaries cover a wide spectrum of topics. One of this year's biggest documentaries E-Team; the documentary is directed by Katy Chevigny and Ross Kauffman. The team who are also the producers of the movie stated recently in an interview that they were drawn to make an intimate film that brought people behind the scenes with amazing characters which is why they spent a lot of time at home with the characters and their families. The two film makers have had previous documentary experience with Kauffman working on Born into Brothel's and Chevigny with both Election Day and Deadline which was at The Sundance Festival in 2004 and was later shown on NBC. Their movies appeared at the Human Rights Watch Film Festival so they were in familiar ground with this one.
The documentary follows four members of the Emergencies Team, reporting and investigating human rights abuse cases all over the world. It highlights the dangers they encounter and the unique cases they have to face every day and the impact it has on their families and personal lives. The documentary was a hit at the Sundance Festival and caused quite a stir at the Hamptons International Film Festival. The movie took two and a half years to shoot with Kauffman working the camera and Chevigny working on the sound but when they had to go into conflict zones only Kauffman could go or one of the cinematographers.
The two said they faced challenges especially when it came to identifying when they had enough footage so their fellow producer Marilyn Ness suggested they start editing. The film makers did face danger but the people they were following had strict safety protocols so that kept them safe. The documentary won the 2014 Brizzolara Family Foundation Award for a Film of Conflict and Resolution and shall be premiering on Netflix on October 21st, 2014.
