Nuclear Nation DVD Release Date, Reveals, News and Rumors: DVD Official Release to be October 21st of 2014
One of the biggest disasters of the 21st century without a doubt has to be the Earthquake and Tsunami that hit Japan on March 11th of 2011. The Tsunami brought with it immense destruction that still affects Japan's economy to date. One of the biggest casualties of the earthquake was the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. The earthquake affected several reactors making them unable to restart as well as the reactor cooling systems that caused the reactors to release radioactivity. This caused the government to clear a 30 kilometer evacuation zone that is in effect to this day as the plant still releases radioactivity to date. The plant that went active in 1970 was one of the world's 15 largest nuclear power plants and sits in the towns of Okuma and Fatuba.
When the reactors exploded the residents of Fatuba fled their town and all went to an abandoned high school 250 kilometers away. The documentary Nuclear Nation is about these refugees from this town and the trials and tribulations they face away from the town that they called home all their lives. When the nuclear plant was commissioned it promised the town prosperity and growth and at the time nobody could imagine the disaster that they face now. The area that is now a no-go zone was home to many people who want to go back for family heirlooms and to their homes. One of the people who the film maker Atushi Funahashi follows is Ichiro Nakai who lost his wife and farm to the earthquake.
The movie was released on DVD in Japan on January 22nd 2014 but shall be released officially on October 21st of 2014. It has shown at a host of film festivals including The Berlin International Film Festival, The Hong Kong International Film Festival and the Rio de Janiero International Film Festival in 2012. For people looking to watch a good documentary this is an amazing addition to their DVD library.
