Google Android TV News, Reveals, rumors and Updates: Google Announces Phone, Nexus TV, and Tablet Devices
Good News as Google has finally announced the arrival of 3 new Android-powered, Nexus branded devices and they comprise of a set top box for Television, a tablet and a Smartphone. The machines are all designed with the upcoming update to the operating system, codenamed Android Lollipop. The Nexus Player is marking the introduction of Android TV, which is Google's latest bid to the living room. Hiroshi Lockheimer who is the vice president of Android engineering was quick to point out the company learned from the past mistakes saying "On Google TV you could get a lot of apps, but a lot of the versions were just big tablet versions on a 50in screen that just didn't feel right."
He adds "We're much more opinionated about what an app should look like on a TV set, so we've been working very closely with app developers in the TV and content space over the past months on optimizing their applications." The Nexus player is a set top box which was built by Asus and features an Intel chip. It is also bundled with a remote control that has a built in microphone and owners will be able to buy an add-on controller I they want to play video games. At the same time, Google has announced Sony, Sharp and Phillips are going to be building Android TV into the forthcoming television sets.
On the other hand, neither of the two biggest television makers, including Samsung and LG has agreed to support the platform at this juncture, probably taking time to study and analyze success probabilities in the market. The previous Google Television platform was scrapped and the search king has not had too much success with Chromecast in relation to Roku TV even though Chromecast TV supports a more limited set of apps. A lot of people are skeptical due to Google's sketchy history in this department. However, if there is something that we ought to give Google credit for, it is not giving up, considering how many times they have had a go with this in the past.
