Whitney: United States of America vs. James J. Bulger DVD Release date, Rumors, Updates and Reviews: DVD Release on 14th October 2014
James J. Bulger was at one point in his life second after Osama Bin Laden on the FBI's most wanted list; the most interesting thing about his name being on the list is at one point in his life he was an FBI informant. His trials are the basis for this documentary and explore alleged corruption within law enforcement. The documentary is directed and produced by Joe Berlinger who directed the documentary Paradise Lost about three boys wrongfully accused for killing three eight year old boys as part of a satanic ritual.
Whitney Bulger Jr. was brought up in a working home and entered crime relatively early in his life. He was incarcerated in 1956 for armed robbery and truck hijacking and was in the famous Alcatraz prison for a while. He later joined the interesting world of organized crime where he thrived, Beginning 1975 he became an FBI informant and for his corporation the Bureau largely ignored his involvement in crimes. He was particularly useful in providing information on the Patricia Crime family. However, in 1997 this relationship came under fire when the New England media tied the local law enforcement and FBI to Whitney.
After being tipped off by his former handler about pending indictment under the RICO act, Whitney fled and went into hiding for 12 years; from 1994 to 2011 during which he was placed on the FBI's most wanted list. In July of 2011 he was arrested in California with his long time girlfriend who was sentenced to eight years in prison in 2012 for harboring a fugitive, identity fraud and conspiracy to commit identity fraud. Whitney on the other hand was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences after being found guilty of 31 of the 32 charges filed against him which included racketeering, money laundering, extortion, weapons charges and complicity in 19 murder charges. The movie was produced BY CNN films and Radical Media. It made around 76 thousand dollars at the box office and shall no doubt boost its numbers after its DVD release on 14th October 2014.
