Playstation TV Release in US at $99; Stylish Little Device Does Not Deliver Its Expected Features
Sony, the Japanese electronics conglomerate has recently delivered its newest treat for the gamers, the Playstation TV. Its newest micro-console was released commercially in the U.S. and Canada last Tuesday, Gamespot reports.
The company released the newest playing device one month earlier in America compared to its launch in Europe, which is set on November 14. Playstation TV, announced late last month, launched in the U.S. market at $99.
The gadget package sold at the said price includes a PS TV unit, HDMI cable, AC adapter, and AC power cord. Playstation TV is also available in a limited edition bundle which cost $140. The said package includes additional DualShock 3 controller, 8GB memory card, USB cable, and a video game from the “Lego Movie.”
During the product launch, the Japan-based company said that Playstation TV, with the Vita program inside, will have almost 700 games and can also play Playstation Vita, Playstation One and PSP games. It can also be used in streaming PS4 games to television through Remote Play.
According to Venture Beat, Playstation TV has small and attractive aesthetic appeal, brought by its slim and rounded edges. The little-box gaming device, on the other hand, has no internal storage. Thus, to be able to add more games, users will need to have a Sony memory card.
Users will not have a problem in choosing what to play because just like what Sony said, gamers can play Vita games as well as the older Playstation version games.
Although Playstation TV is seen as a small stylish box that is flexible in terms of game formats, Gizmodo cited that it “does not deliver.” Unlike its counterparts, Roku and Chromecast, Sony’s new device allows download of Netflix, Hulu Plus and You Tube apps but all of them will not work.
In response to the unexplained ‘disable’ status of other apps, Sony said “PS TV plays entertainment content, including popular movies and TV shows that can be downloaded from PlayStation Store. At launch, PS TV has video streaming apps Crackle, Crunchyroll and Qello.”
Maybe Sony can reason out that playing and downloading videos is not really the core feature of the console. A better gamer experience is the main trade mark of Playstation TV. But even in this aspect, this gadget somehow falls short.
Certain games do not launch and Remote Play does not always work according to how it should be working. Thus, reviews said that it is still better to get Playstation Vita bundle at $200.
