'Haider' Box Office Collection Review: A Rare Bollywood Gem You Shouldn't Miss
The "Haider" box office collection of Shahid Kapoor might be low, yet when it comes to performance wise, it is doing better compared to the "Bang Bang" of Hrithik Roshan, which also hit the theaters on Oct. 2.
"Haider" was released in a few theaters and the film makers were not expecting the movie to earn a big amount at box office. However, due to the positive reviews, the film maintained its status at the box office and it went up by fifteen to twenty percent on Sunday.
The directorial film of Vishal Bhardwaj has garnered praises from the critics and audiences. According to International Business Times, the film's business showed a huge growth in several regions particularly in Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Punjab.
"Haider" goes where Bollywood treads rarely. Based on "Hamlet" of William Shakespeare, the film goes beyond the clichés on Kashmir as well as its characters are not trying to be entertaining.
The film revolves around the story of Haider, which was portrayed by Shahid, who finds out that his father was arrested by the Indian Army. Then, he returned from Aligarh to realize that this mother and uncle are involved behind the conspiracy, which resulted in the disappearance of his father.
HindustanTimes reported how Bhardwaj takes up the plays of bard and weaves them into a different cultural milieu but in a passionate manner. With Haider, Vishal improved. The movie also paints Kashmir into a haunting color. The dark hues and usual whites of the frames are present in the Valley, which is typical in cinematic sense when you play the character with dark emotions, yet even the colorful frames outline the hurt, disturbed souls, and revengeful feelings.
Kashmiri and Bhardwaj journalist Basharat Peer co-wrote the screenplay of the film and they should be praised for their courage to speak in a strong manner regarding what's happening in Kashmir. Haider goes beyond the Pakistan bashing of Bollywood for the troubles and speaks of Kashmir regarding the alleged atrocities of Indian Army on the Kashmiris.
"Haider" was released on Oct. 2 and stars Irrfan Khan, Tabu, Shraddha Kapoor, and Kay Kay Memon in key roles.
