Alan Jackson's Mother-in-Law, Nell Brown Jackson, Passes Away
Country superstar Alan Jackson who has also released a Gospel album recently and his family are in mourning. Jackson's mother-in-law, Nell Brown Jackson, passed away on Friday morning (April 3) at the age of 94.
Here's part of her orbituary:
"Nell Brown Jackson was born December 6, 1920 in Madras, GA; the youngest of 13 children born to the marriage of Charles Herbert and Dora Lula Atchison Brown. In addition to her parents and her twelve siblings, she was predeceased by her husband William Daniel Jackson, whom she had married August 14, 1937. Another great loss was that of her son Ronald Jackson.
Nell, during her career, worked at The Newnan Cotton Mills, as did so many of her contemporaries, but she soon found out that her calling was as a caregiver for little ones. She was a part of the Day Care Programs at First Baptist Church and Unity Church for many years. She and her husband Dan were charter members of Unity Baptist Church.
Nell was a faithful member of The Dorcus Sunday school class and a senior Bible study group. The trips with the senior group of her church were very special experiences. She was a member of The Eastern Star. Music was a great interest in her life. She was a part of "The Melody Trio" composed of Velma Gosdin, Ila Brown and Nell. Saturday night would often find her at the gospel singings held at Melear's Restaurant in the years 1950-1960. Her talents were lent to many churches, weddings and funerals as a featured soloist.
Nell's life was a simple love story for her God, her family, her church and her friends. She was happiest when she was with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her children: Jane J. Johnson and husband Roger, Denise J. Jackson and husband Alan and Danny Jackson of Tequesta, FL. Her grandchildren are Kevin (Kim) Jackson, Allen (Kelly) Loftin, Greg (Rholanda) Johnson, Andy (Kate) Loftin, Ken (Crystal) Johnson, Mattie Jackson, Ali Jackson, Dani Jackson. There are 12 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister-in-law Louise Brown and a brother-in-law Colonel Joe M. Jackson (Ret.USAF).
Visitation with the family will be on Monday evening April 6th between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Unity Baptist Church. The funeral service will be on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Unity Baptist Church with Dr. Phil Pilgrim and Pastor Danny Wilson officiating. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Those who may wish to remember her life with a memorial gift may do so to either Unity Baptist Church 311 Smokey Road Newnan GA 30263 or to Emory Chapel United Methodist Church 2677 Highway 34 West Newnan, GA 30263.
