Cindy Morgan Returns with "Bows and Arrows"
On September 4, singer and songwriter Cindy Morgan returns with her most personal album to date "Bows and Arrows." Donning the lead producer's hat for the first time in her career-along with co-producer and engineer Kyle Buchanan (Ginny Owens, Andrew Greer).
The new album is a tapestry of favorite sounds, from Americana, to pop, to symphonic, all woven together with a common thread. "Bluegrass was the music of my childhood," she explains. "My father was a musician and a songwriter who played guitars in country and bluegrass bands. My mom was a gospel singer. I find myself always returning to the music of my youth, and I think Bows & Arrows is really the amalgamating of all the music I have loved in my life."
"It is a very personal record," she continues. "I was just writing songs that were brimming inside of me, writing to make me happy and also in hopes that the stories resound with other people. You've just got to take the risk, write your heart and let it do what it's gonna do."
"Bows & Arrows" boasts an impressive list of collaborators, from celebrated singer/songwriter Gabe Dixon, who lends his voice on "Can't Help Yourself," to performances by legendary bluegrass mandolinist Sierra Hull and famed upright bassist Viktor Krauss, among others. With a nod to her new book, a highlight of the album is a duet with acclaimed singer/songwriter Andrew Peterson on a reimagined "How Could I Ask for More," one of Cindy's most beloved and requested songs of all time.
Cindy Morgan is a veteran as far as contemporary Christian music is concerned. Her 1992 debut album, "Real Life," earned her six Dove Award nominations. Her follow-up, "A Reason to Live," garnered her another Dove Award nomination. Overall she has earned 12 Dove Awards.
Morgan, using her married name, is also one half of the duo St. Lola in the Fields with Jeremy Bose. They released High Atop the Houses and the Towns on October 5, 2010 via Nettwerk. In the late 2012, Morgan joined forces with singer/songwriter Andrew Greer for Food for the Hungry's "Hymns for Hunger" Tour, helping raise awareness and resources for local and international hunger relief organizations at tour stops across the country
