Jack White Issues Public Apology to the Black Keys & Others
Famous musician, Jack White, of the White Stripes, Racoutuers, Dead Weather and his solo projects is one of the best known songwriters/musicians of this decade. He is a fairly soft spoken and polite man off stage, but holds strong opinions like most creative people.
Over the past year, a private dislike between White and the members of the Black Keys has come into the public eye and even personal emails of Jack's were brought out for everyone to see. He recently did an interview with Rolling Stone, and some of his quotes were not going over too well and rubbing people the wrong way.
In the Rolling Stones interview, White insinuated that the Black Keys were riding off the coat tails of the White Stripes success. He also compares the Black Keys 'copying him' to artists like Adele, Duffy, and Lana Del Ray and how they are similarly taking part in a bluesy, female fronted sound that the late-great Amy Winehouse made mainstream during her career. So now, it seemed he was taking a shot at other artists as well.
So whichever side you are on with White, he decided it would be best to write out a heart felt apology to all of the musicians that he has slighted and be able to explain himself more properly.
Here is a portion of what Jack had to say:
"Remarks I've made about the state of the music business and about how certain acts create new markets in the minds of music lovers are also very difficult to clarify without exacerbating the issue. In an attempt to not give the music magazine Rolling Stone a "no comment," because I thought they would use that to convey some sort of pettiness on my part, I decided to try to explain a tiny portion of what they were asking. But, they are the type of comments that are to be made to producers, engineers, and managers who thoroughly understand the behind-the-scenes of what we do all day long. I should've been smarter to know that it would be pointless to use comparisons like I did to readers who most likely don't understand the scenario and that my words would seem very negative in nature. That's not me trying to sound like I'm above anyone, it was just "shop talk" and it sounded a lot more negative than it was meant to."
