Kelly Clarkson Defends Spanking Her Kids

Pop singer and professing Christian Kelly Clarkson defends spanking her children in the effort of discipling them for the better good. Speaking to a New York radio station, the American Idol winner said she found "nothing wrong" with smacking her children. Clarkson has two children, 3-year-old River Rose and 1-year-old Remington Alexander.
"I don't mean, like, hitting her hard, I just mean a spanking," Clarkson, who also has a one-year-old son named Remington Alexander, told 98.9 The Buzz. She also noted that disciplining in the presence of others is especially difficult, since the method is controversial: "That's a tricky thing, when you're out in public, because then people are like--they think that's wrong or something, but I find nothing wrong with a spanking."
Clarkson was raised a strict Southern Baptist. She explains her religious upbringing: "I come from a conservative family. My family was highly conservative; I had to go to church on Sunday and Wednesday."
And while acknowledging the importance of religion during her childhood, Clarkson confirmed in 2004 that it's become even more important to her in adulthood: "I always grew up in church. I was the leader of our youth group. I've always grown up pretty close to church and with God. But I think I've just gotten a lot closer just because He's the only One I can lean on."
