Pat Barrett Talks About His New Song "Better"

Songwriter and worship leader Pat Barrett has recently released one of his most peronal songs, "Better." The song is from his first live project, Canvas and Clay, available here. "Better," is currently No. 26 on the Christian Airplay chart and gaining audience impressions each week.
Barrett talks about what this song means to him. "'Better' is such a special song to me personally because it has served as a challenge," shares Pat Barrett of the new single. "Money, appearance, power and approval are all unbelievably tempting to live for at times. We cause ourselves (and others) a lot of harm when we set these things at the center of our lives. In the moments where we feel tempted to live for 'lesser' things, we are only left feeling more empty. I hope this song can help redirect the affection of our heart to something (read: Someone) better."
Canvas and Clay was captured in Atlanta at 1971 Sounds Studio and became less about making a live album and more about having a night of worship and sharing the songs and moments that happened. The album is about trusting the process of formation in our lives.
"Our relationship with God is such an experiential thing that is filled with the unknown," explains Barrett. "There are things that we prepare for and things that happen that you could never prepare for in life. I always love the posture of leading worship that says we have some songs planned, but this isn't about songs...it's about us connecting with God...so let's see what happens. I love that we were able to capture and share a night like that with this project."
In October, Barrett will join Chris Tomlin for "An Evening of Worship" on tour. Click here for tour dates.
