Shelly E. Johnson Hopes "My Peace is Jesus" Will Be a Healing Balm for Her Listeners
LifeWay Worship's 2012 Songwriter of the Year, Shelly E. Johnson drops another new single "My Peace is Jesus" today. This is the follow-up single to the recently released "Move in Miracles." both songs will be available on her forthcoming album Great Awakening. Johnson is best known for co-writing the hit song "Power of the Cross," which has been recorded by Natalie Grant, Steve Green and is being used in churches worldwide.
With regards to her new song, this is what Johnson has to say, "If there is one word that is safe to say every person on the planet wants to experience more than anything in their life right now, it is ... PEACE. Not the self-manufactured, sounds good in a self-help book kind of peace. But the real actual peace that can only be found in Jesus."
"The kind of peace that stills your soul when logic and reasoning would tell you to be freaking out. The world is on fire right now. We're in a battle of good vs. evil, dark vs. light, God vs. Satan. In the last couple years, that battle has intensified, the fire has grown hotter. We know now more tangibly than we ever have that Jesus is our only hope. He's the only source of peace there is."
Johnson continues to talk about how the song was recorded. "While me & my producer Sean Hill were working on this album, we were about halfway through the recording process, and I was thinking through the song list. I told Sean, `There is one song we are missing ... this album needs a song of peace, a song of rest to sing over people ... we need to sing Jesus over people.'"
"This song was birthed as the result of that prayer. The first version of this song was all about the ways God brings us peace. But then during the writing process, it dawned on us, "God doesn't bring us peace ... He IS our peace". Peace is not a thing or an emotion or an attribute that is found in Jesus ... peace IS Jesus. Jesus is peace. Peace is who Jesus is. When we speak His Name, we speak peace into the atmosphere. When we trust Him, we have peace, because we have Him."
Johnson hopes this song will be a healing balm for all who are hurting. "I hope and pray this song can be a therapeutic balm for your soul during this crazy time we're all living in. I hope this song pushes you deeper into the arms of Jesus. I hope this song settles your nerves, silences your fears, and helps your heart focus on Jesus and Jesus only."
