Jimmy Fortune Had a Successful Heart Surgery
Country-gospel stalwart and longstanding tenor for the Statler Brothers Jimmy Fortune underwent a major heart surgery on Wednesday (Feb. 15). The procedure was intended to correct some concerning results that a heart test yielded. The latest report is that the surgery was a success and Fortune has now been moved to recovery.
Fortune's team updates: "Jimmy has been moved to recovery. He had a quintuple bypass surgery today and the surgeon was very pleased with his procedure. He still has a long road ahead of him but we are so thankful to God, his family, and friends who have prayed and watched over him. Nina and his daughters have actually been able to see him and he looks really good! Y'all keep the prayers coming for a speedy and safe recovery with no complications!"
A few weeks ago, Fortune went in for a test on his heart and some concerning areas were found. He had to have a bypass surgery to create new routes for his blood to his heart.
However, the recovery time associated with the procedure means that Fortune will have to cancel some shows he had planned. "However, he has said that many people go back to normal activity after 12 weeks! So we plan on being back on the road soon!" the message notes, concluding with a message thanking fans for their prayers.
Most recently, Fortune with his group, Brothers of the Heart released their sophomore album Listen to the Music (Gaither Music Group). His bandmates in the group are Bradley Walker, Mike Rogers and Ben Isaacs. On the 12-track record, produced by group member Ben Isaacs (producer for Oak Ridge Boys, Rory Feek and more), the Brothers reimagine country, gospel and pop classics, including "Ring of Fire," "Desperado," "Bye Bye Love" and more. Showcasing the supergroup's signature seamless harmonies and impeccable arrangements, the anticipated album illuminates the joy of listening to great music.
"Being a part of this project has been so much fun," stated Isaacs. "Not only do I get to produce, I also get to sing with three of the best singers and musicians ever. The song choices on this project are special to all of us; we feel that the songs have been a huge part of our pasts. I hope the listener enjoys the music and hears our love and passion in every song."
