Exclusive Song Premiere: Mark Bishop's "Ten Thousand Witnesses"
GRAMMY-nominated artist Mark Bishop will be releasing his new album Home on January 26. As a foretaste, we are honored to be able to premiere one of the prime cuts on the record. You can now listen to the magnificent "Ten Thousand Witnesses," with its swelling orchestral passages and celebratory choir, by clicking HERE.
With regards to the song, Bishop writes, "As a songwriter, when I read the scriptures, you can't help but imagine how some of these stories looked in real life. We've seen movies about the life of Jesus and other events in the Bible. They help us picture what maybe the Sermon on the Mount looked like, or Jesus healing the blind.
"When we read and hear about the final judgement that mankind will face one day, I've pictured it as a grand courtroom. Satan will use every trick in the book to argue his case. He will cite examples of how unworthy we are to be saved. I know that many thousands of angels were present at the crucifixion and imagine them appearing as witnesses to the sacrifice Jesus made for us in His great love, making it irrefutable. We were made holy by His sacrifice. We were purchased by grace. Case dismissed."
Home introduces an accomplished crew of musicians - along with background singers Amber Eppinette Saunders (11th Hour) and Freddie Ratliff - capable of delivering inspired and soulful backing no matter which direction Bishop's creativity takes them. Nowhere is the breadth of that creativity, and the depth of that talent, more evident than in the title - and focus - track, an evocation of generations of joyous African-American gospel that features a remarkable set of harmonies by Ratliff that surround Bishop's exuberant lead.
"With Home, we explore through music and lyrics how God moves through our lives, through big moments and little ones," says Bishop. "He's there in our love of family. He's there through the ups and downs of life. He's weaving a grand tapestry that one day will be revealed to us. We will see what at the time only He could see, on that day when we finally make it 'home.'"
