Pastor John MacArthur Hospitalized with Pneumonia; Church Says He Die Soon

Renowned Bible teacher and longtime pastor of Grace Community Church, Dr. John MacArthur, has been hospitalized with pneumonia, according to an announcement made during the church's worship service on Sunday, July 13.
Elder Tom Patton, speaking on behalf of the church leadership, shared that MacArthur's condition is serious and urged the congregation to pray fervently for him. "He may be in the presence of the Lord soon," Patton said, acknowledging the gravity of the situation while pointing to the pastor's eternal hope in Christ.
MacArthur, 86, has faced a series of significant health challenges in recent months. In late 2024, he underwent three major medical procedures, including heart and lung surgeries. His recovery, described earlier this year as "slower than expected," included several hospital stays and prolonged periods of rest. Despite these setbacks, he continued to minister when possible, delivering a powerful video message during the Shepherds Conference in March 2025, where he described himself as being on the "last lap" of life, full of gratitude and peace.
Grace Community Church has not released further details about his current condition but encouraged continued prayer for Pastor MacArthur, his wife Patricia, their family, and the entire church community.
John MacArthur has faithfully pastored Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California, since 1969. He is also the president of The Master's Seminary and founder of Grace to You, a global media ministry. His legacy includes decades of verse-by-verse biblical exposition, leadership in Reformed evangelicalism, and unwavering commitment to the authority of Scripture.
