X-Men: Apocalypse news: X-Men: Apocalypse release date set for May 2016

Fans are excited as more and more details on the upcoming X-Men movie, X-Men: Apocalypse are being revealed.

After the successful run of X-Men: Days of Future Past, Director Brian Singer and screenwriter Simon Kinberg are currently busy developing the story for the franchise's next installment. X-Men: Apocalypse release date has been set to May 27, 2016. This coincides with the reported release of Disney's Alice in Wonderland 2. 

Singer has skipped X-Men directorial duties for quite some time and is happy to be on a roll.

According to Singer, the movie will be loosely based on the "Age of Apocalypse" storyline, which focuses mainly on the X-Men icons: Professor X (James McAvoy), Magneto (Michael Fassbender), Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), and Beast (Nicholas Hoult).

Channing Tatum is reportedly joining the team as Gambit, but the rumor has yet to be confirmed.

The X-Men are ready to battle Apocalypse, who was first seen in the end credits of X-Men: Days of Future Past. According to Marvel lore, Apocalypse was the first-ever mutant to roam the earth, with powers such as flight, superhuman strength, teleportation, and telekinesis.  He has four horsemen: Pestilence, Famine, War and Death.

In an interview, Singer said, "Apocalypse deals with ancient mutancy. What would humans have thought mutants were? What would mutants think humans were? You're dealing with gods and things like that. And what if one survived and what if that found its way into our world?"

The X-Men: Apocalypse director has hinted that this movie might be bigger than the previous one, with elaborate set pieces and larger-than-life battle scenes.
