HBO Renews ‘The Leftovers,' Nearing Final Episode For Season 1
HBO proudly announces it is renewing The Leftovers for season 2 with its cast mainly Justin Theroux, Amy Brenneman and Christopher Eccleston returning for the HBO original series.
Premiering last June 29 debuting at 1.8 million viewers, The Leftovers is created and helmed by Damon Lindelof, co-creator of Lost and Tom Perrotta, the author of the same name novel in which the series is based on. Tom Perrotta is engaged with the series as the show's writer and executive producer, further giving the series an authentic and hands-on take from the author himself.
The best-selling novel was released in 2011 that documents the lives of those people left on Earth after a rapture-like event called Sudden Departure caused the mysterious disappearance of millions of people. The story is told in the fictional town of Mapleton, New York and mainly revolving around the members of the Garvey family.
The 10-episode season 1 tells the events three years later after the Sudden Departure happened. With no real explanation or a sense of trace for their friends and loved ones, the characters are caught in a series of madness, unison, division, grief, paranoia, mysteries, fanaticism and disbelief.
Meanwhile, second to the last episode is titled The Garveys at Their Best and the synopsis teases someone reconnecting to his past, a job interview, receiving an honor, a bothering news, a charging deer, a chase and bad habits.
Will there be answers at the season finale on September 7 or will viewers have to wait for season 2 for the mysteries to unfold? The Leftovers airs on HBO, Sundays at 10pm.
