'Doctor Who' Latest News, Interviews and UPDATE! There's A New Doctor in Town
For those who missed the premiere episode, Season 8 for Doctor Who release date was last August 23. So if you weren't able to catch the first episode, here's a spoiler for you: there's a new doctor in town, the twelfth doctor (or new doctor) is none other than Peter Capaldi. The eighth season of the show also has a new title sequence, as reported by IBTimes.
For those who were able to watch the show, I bet you have noticed the mechanical-themed sequence. As reported by IBTimes, this was from Doctor Who fan Billy Hanshaw, a motion graphics and animator. After showrunner Steven Moffat saw the design online, he contacted Hanshaw and asked him about the sequence being adapted for the eighth season of the show.
In a Doctor Who interview with Billy Hanshaw, the motion graphics and animator said that "I grew up with Doctor Who. It was compulsive Saturday evening viewing in the U.K. during the 70's."
The 'Doctor Who' new doctor title sequence created by Hanshaw was something that, according to the article above, Hanshaw did not expect to get a formal offer from, either BBC or Moffat. The animator also said in the interview that Brian Minchin, the show's executive producer, contacted him via LinkedIn. "I simply responded by asking if there was anything I could help with. Brian said - 'both Steven (Moffat) and I are huge fans of your Youtube work - do you want to help us with the series 8 titles.' Chances like this don't come along very often, and since I was already trying to steer my motion graphics work towards the film and TV industry, it was an opportunity too good to even have second thoughts about," explained Hanshaw.
