Bad Judge Premiere: Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice Actress Stars in Laugh-Out-Loud Comedy Series
Bad Judge at NBC premieres October 2 and will air every Thursday at the 9 PM time slot. Co-created by Adam McKay, Chad Kultgen and Chris Henchy, the Bad Judge show stars Kate Walsh as Rebecca Wright, one of LA's toughest and most respected criminal court judges but who has a reputation for unorthodox behavior in the courtroom, including creative rulings and saying exactly what's on her mind, and whose private life is anything but innocent. With Kate Walsh on the cast of the Bad Judge TV series are Tone Bell as Tedward, Ryan Hansen as Gary Boyd, John Ducey as Tom Barlow, Miguel Sandoval as Judge Hernandez and Theodore Barnes as Robby Shoemaker.
The official Bad Judge trailer can be accessed at NBC dedicated site for the show, on Youtube and other video hosting sites as well as on the Bad Judge IMDB site. Based on the pilot, the Bad Judge reviews are generally not favorable. Hank Stuever of The Washington Post gave it a "B-" rating but noted that "there's a caustic wit to Bad Judge that, with a little help, might still rise above its more shallow laughs." David Wiegand of the San Francisco Gate said, "The premise is intriguing, but the execution fizzles, for the most part. The show doesn't really know what it wants to be, and you feel the writers pulling their punches on the judge's badness."
The pilot was released in May so it's likely that NBC could have by now made some tweaks on the Bad Judge initial episode for the series. In fact, Kate Walsh in an interview with Channel Guide said: "Adam (McKay) did the rewrites on the pilot and it was laugh-out-loud funny. He's such a genius in terms of comedic moments in comedy. It's really going to be a character-driven piece. At the end of the day, we want people to laugh and think, but I think we also have this great opportunity to do some great social commentary too, perhaps in the world of the judge and all this stuff that comes her way. At the same time, laughing is the most important thing to this show. There will definitely be some physical comedy because that's my strength too, but it's character driven and driven under circumstances of the story."
