DC's Justice League slowly creating its own 'Universe' on TV with upcoming Superhero Shows to start this Fall
Marvel is now on it's 2nd phase of their cinematic universe and they are assuming that Warner Bros. and DC will catch up with their own Justice League Galaxy on the big screen. It would seem that DC is concentrating and penetrating more superhero franchises via the small screen. Arrow, The Flash, Gotham, Constantine, Supergirl and Lucifer are some of the comic turned live-action franchises DC is prioritizing.
As Arrow star Stephen Amell said, DC is creating a Justice League on TV. According to the executive producer of Arrow and The Flash, it is convenient to better format superhero stories in TV and not because it's cheaper.
Executive producer Greg Berlanti also states that the top priority isn't budget but it's getting the hero's origin story right. "You want the characters to be like you read!.. Sometimes I think if you're doing an origin story and they're not all the way there - like our suit here isn't what it's going to be, and Arrow isn't Green Arrow yet - in this day and age, especially when [fans] can go to the movies or download a film where the character is in a suit and you're dealing with the competition - not just against your show, but actually against all the superheroes that are out there in the universe that people can see, that are live action - you want, I think, the most true version of that.
"Even though in TV you can spread it out over a long period - it may not be as realized as it is at the end of the series - we still want enough of it at the outset that it doesn't feel like, 'Wait a second, I'm watching a show about Ambush Bug but he doesn't look like Ambush Bug!'"
These explains the evolution of The Flash's costume in the new TV series. Of course, it will always start as a "not so perfect" costume until revisions are made to make it the way we are used to, the "traditional comic book costume". As Berlanti explains, it's part of the reason that an origin story takes time.
Watch out for The Flash premiere on Tuesday, October 7th, 2014 @8pm on The CW.
