'Kill the Messenger' Plot, Casts and More: Everything You Need to Know About Jeremy Renner's New Movie 'Kill the Messenger'
Jeremy Renner is busy promoting his latest film "Kill the Messenger." Renner plays the part of reporter Gary Webb, who managed to discover evidence that can implicate the "White House and the C.I.A." in drug cartel. He followed the evidence and discovered very damning evidence that eventually leads to his own tragic end.
Everything started when someone gave him a copy of "a Grand Jury transcript which reveals a link between U.S. intelligence and Central American cocaine smuggling."
"Kill the Messenger" is based on a true to life story of a Pulitzer Prize - winning journalist Gary Webb. Webb stumbles on a story that shocked the whole world. The information caused Webb to believe that the CIA were aware that there's a "crack" epidemic across the U.S. They've allowed Nicaraguan rebels to sell drugs in the U.S. and use the profits to buy weapons and fund their cause. Webb keeps on digging for more solid evidence. Despite warnings from drug kingpins and even CIA operatives, to put a stop on his investigation, he didn't. His investigation led him to the villages of Nicaragua up to the power corridors of Washington, D.C.
Webb's investigation attracts the attention, mostly negative one, which threatens his career, his friends and his family. Other cast includes Rosemarie DeWitt as Sue Webb, Rosemarie DeWitt as Sue Webb, Ray Liotta as John Cullen, and Tim Blake Nelson as Alen Fenster.
The trailer of the movie "Kill the Messenger" showed Renner in a riveting role - a dedicated journalist and a passionate father.
Gary Webb was a well-recognized journalist, but he was discredited by major newspaper and publishing companies. He's having difficulty finding a job. His death was ruled as a suicide. He was found with two gunshot wound to the head.
Renner said, "I wasn't necessarily into news or journalism, but it's one of the reasons I wanted to take on the role because journalism itself is interesting to me." Renner is also the producer on the film and feels that the story of Gary Webb is important. He added that, as he investigated more, the movie "just become too important." The actor said, "It's not a movie that I wanted to do anymore, it's a movie that I had to do.
