Super Bowl XLIX Announces Katy Perry Will Perform at Halftime Show in 2015, Chosen Over Coldplay and Rihanna
Pop singer Katy Perry has gotten the nod by the NFL that the she will be the halftime entertainment for the upcoming Super Bowl XLIX Halftime show according to Billboard.
The Super Bowl will take place on Sunday, February 1 at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona and it the most widely televised event that you could ever perform at. Last years Super Bowl drew in a record audience of 111.5 million viewers.
The 29-year-old entertainer reportedly edged out Coldplay and Rihanna in the final discussions for the NFL event. Carrie Underwood was another name that had been circulating as a potential performer.
When speaking on the NFL asking artists to pay to play at the Super Bowl, Perry shared on ESPN's College Game Day, "I'm not the kind of girl who would pay to play the Super Bowl."
Back in August there were rumors that Carrie Underwood was being considered to perform the halftime show of Super Bowl XLIX next February but just a few days later, it was revealed that she was pregnant ... and likely out of the running for the Super Bowl gig. Today we are hearing that pop star Katy Perry has been tapped as the halftime performer for Super Bowl XLIX. The news hasn't been officially confirmed but I can absolutely believe that Katy will perform the Super Bowl halftime show next year.
"A deal is being hammered out for Katy to play the Super Bowl," said an entertainment insider of the plan. On ESPN, Perry blasted a reported NFL scheme to ask recording stars to pay the league in exchange for performing on its Super Bowl stage, which last year drew a record-setting 111.5 million viewers.
Perry is one of the top entertainers around the world currently (with 55.4 million twitter followers) and conveniently has a gap in her tour dates during Super Bowl week.
Bruno Mars put on a spectacular show at last years Super Bowl but they think Perry's songs are even more well known which could help her going into her performance.
