Sony Xperia Z3v U.S. Release Date on October 23; Waterproof and First PS4 Remote Play Phone; U.S. Premiere Sony's Step to Gain Bigger Market Share
With the goal of increasing their U.S. market share, Japanese company Sony shipped its newest flagship smartphones earlier than it used to. Acknowledging the tough competition against America's tech-giants like Apple, Sony announced that Xperia Z3v will be available in Verizon starting on October 23, Ecumenical News reports.
In its press release, the Japan-based tech-company highlighted the "latest innovations and standout features" of their newest handset. This includes being waterproof, having a Hi-Res Audio support, and having a Cyber-shot-quality 20.7 MP camera.
The newest Xperia will also be the first smartphone will also have PlayStation®4 gaming through PS4TM Remote Play. This means that Sony Xperia Z3v owners can use the handset as a Dualshock controller once connected to their PS4. CNet reported that Sony showed the Xperia Z3v's Remote Play capability during the smartphone's launched as the newest Verizon product.
Aside from these awesome features, Sony and Verizon will also add a wireless charging capability that will use inductive 'Qi' technology. The Sony Xperia Z3v will also have a 1080 full HD 5.2-inch display, BIONZTM processor, and 32 GB internal memory. In terms of the price, Verizon announced that Sony Xperia Z3v selling price is $200 per month with a two-year contract. The Sony's flagship phone can also be bought without a contract at a price of $600.
Aside from Sony Xperia Z3v, its brother will also have its U.S. launch this month. T-Mobile opted for a more silent confirmation about Xperia Z3's October 29 release date. The carrier company set Sony Z3 cost at $26.24 per month, which totaled to $630. T-Mobile also announced pre-orders for Z3 will start today, October 15.
Looking back, it always took Sony a long time before its flagship handsets reach the U.S. market, as reported by CIO-today. Not this time. Both the Z3v and Z3 were launched just last month in Berlin but Sony clearly rushed in partnering with a U.S. carrier that will ship their handsets to America.
Sony's clear effort to avoid another late release is an evidence of its intent to improve its U.S. smartphone market share. The company is not even one of the top 5 smartphone makers in America. The company plans to change this.
On the other hand, Kunimasa Suzuki, Sony Mobile Head, said that the company is aware of the tough smartphone competition in the U.S. This is why the company tends to target Sony's entertainment fans. The Japan-based company share a large chunk of the U.S. market when it comes to its television, headphones, cameras and of course their Playstation.
Suzuki also noted that Verizon, U.S. leading carrier can help it big time by showing how Xperia Z3v works with Playstation and Sony digital movies that comes with the smartphones. With the approach of selling 'the Sony experience rather than just the phone' Suzuki expressed Sony's hope for an increased sales and market share through Sony Xperia Z3v and its brothers.
