While many Southern Gospel acts pride themselves for doing cover songs, this is not so with the Wisecarvers. They have taken the road less travelled by penning all (save for one) tracks on their latest release. Not only that, the Wisecarvers have deviated from the 10-song norm by generously offering 12 selections. And they are handsomely rewarded with their latest Sonlite release "Silhouette," which is arguably their best record to date.
moreHowever, what sets Mosaic MSC's "Heaven" is that they have moved away from the rock based template of most worship records. Rather, they have made "Heaven" more electronic with sparser use of electric guitars, an increase prevalence of electronic loops and more distorted vocals. Though not entirely innovative, at least the sound is more distinctive.
moreMaybe it's because they are from the UK. Maybe it's because they can interweave folk sensibilities and a slight blotch of electronica into their Jason Mraz-esque pop. Maybe it's because they are quarantined from the assembly line of recycled cliches and guitar riffs. There's something very addictive about Rivers & Robots' new Integrity Music release "Discovery." This is an album that will find yourself returning to again and again.
moreMack Brock's fingerprints are everywhere as far as modern worship songs are concerned. Even if his name may not be familiar to all, Brock's compositions have been the soundtrack of many church's worships, including "O Come to the Altar," "Here as in Heaven," "Resurrecting," "Do It Again" and many others.
moreThe carnage of the so-called worship wars has left its share of unfortunate casualties. Instead of championing for either the hymn or modern worship song option, Townend represents the third alternative.

more"Look Up Child" is an even better record than her predecessor. This sophomore effort not only demonstrates growth but it does it in a way not at the expense of fans who have been smitten by her previous album.
moreChurch songs are the ultimate songs. While other musical genres will one day dissipate in the sight of our returning King, worship songs will still be sung incessantly all day and night. They are the vocabularies and communicative strategies of the regenerated. For record #3, Cromwell has wisely decided to invest in the eternal, by releasing a 5-song EP of worship songs.
moreAustin French's debut album lives up to its titular in the way he opens up his heart progressively with each passing note. The way he invests an array of emotions into his songs makes this record bristle with urgency and sizzle with passion.
moreMark Schultz is to contemporary Christian music (CCM) what Elton John and Billy Joel are to pop music. Schultz has an effortless way of incorporating the piano into his pop-centric songs that the piano becomes a dueting "voice." As a result, you can always count on Schultz's brilliant arpeggios to bring out emotions and nuances often not communicated by the human voice.
