Paul and Hannah McClure “After Your Heart (Live)” Album Review

McClures

Prime Cuts: "My Hallelujah," "Anything Better" (Feat. Leeland), "We Give You the Glory" (Feat. Brian and Jenn Johnson)

Overall Grade: 4/5

Paul and Hannah McClure are no strangers to the world of worship music. Originally from North Carolina, the husband-and-wife duo have been part of the Bethel Music collective since relocating to Redding, California, in 2011. Known for their warm harmonies and heartfelt songwriting, the McClures first made their mark with their 2019 debut album The Way Home. Since then, they've become beloved voices in modern worship, balancing intimate devotion with congregational accessibility.

Their latest project, After Your Heart (Live), captures them at their best. Recorded live with Bethel Music, the album embodies what has long defined their ministry: authentic worship rooted in Scripture, expressed through song and community. The title track, "After Your Heart (Live)" featuring Tiffany Hudson, immediately sets the tone. Drawing inspiration from the woman in Mark 5 who reached out in faith to touch Jesus, the song becomes a declaration of desperation for God's presence. Their duet with Leeland, "Anything Better," is stunning, particularly with its cascading keyboard riffs underscoring Christ-treasuring lyrics.

"We Give You the Glory" with Brian and Jenn Johnson is destined to become a modern classic: anthemic, melodious, and charged with Spirit-filled power. "Even Though I Walk," a power ballad loosely based on Psalm 23, falters somewhat, weighed down by recycled riffs. The same can be said of the midtempo "The Lord Almighty," which doesn't quite break new ground. Far stronger is "My Hallelujah"-first introduced on Bethel's 2025 We Must Respond-reprised here with a moving posture of surrender. Opening track "Holy Hands" is another highlight, a tender yet powerful worship anthem that invites believers into embodied surrender through simple but resonant lyrics and stirring harmonies.

Perhaps the album's most intimate moment comes with "Feet of Jesus" (Feat. David Funk). Stripped back and prayerful, its refrain lingers: Whatever you're looking for, you'll find it at the feet of Jesus / Whatever I'm searching for, I find it at the feet of Jesus / He is our prize, our portion forever. It's a song that slows the listener down and draws them deeper into Christ-centered devotion.

Overall, After Your Heart (Live) solidifies Paul and Hannah McClure's place as vital voices in today's worship landscape. With a mix of soaring anthems and quiet prayers, the album showcases their artistry while always pointing listeners beyond the music itself to the presence of God.
