NBA Rumors: Phoenix Suns Wants Both Goran and Zoran Dragic in Team, May Have to Compete with Other NBA Teams for the Younger Dragic
NBA rumors has it that the Phoenix Suns, which already has Goran Dragic in its roster, is also interested in having younger brother Zoran signed on with the team. Marc Stein in an ESPN NBA-related news report writes: "Sources here in Spain told ESPN.com this weekend that the Phoenix Suns are indeed among the three NBA teams expressing the most serious interest in signing Goran Dragic's younger brother Zoran...."
According to RealGM, Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs, Dallas Mavericks and Orlando Magic are all after Zoran too. The younger Dragic who plays professional basketball in Spain with the Unicaja Malaga team has been noticed by NBA before. In 2012, he played for the Houston Rockets' summer league team.
Stein in his report says Zoran can make the move to the NBA this season so long as "A) the 25-year-old makes the move before the start of the new league season in Spain and B) he pays a higher-buyout fee than specified later in the contract. If Zoran Dragic ends up playing out the coming season with Malaga and thus delays his jump to the NBA until the summer of 2015, his buyout then would be 750,000 Euros (about $971,000)." Zoran's buyout deadline is October 5.
Getting Zoran "makes a lot of sense for the Suns, mostly because of the unsettled nature of the Eric Bledsoe situation (that relationship has deteriorated and he may sign the qualifying offer) and in keeping Goran Dragic a Sun as he is a free agent next summer and will have multiple suitors," says Kurt Helin of NBC Sports. NBA trade rumors persist that Bledsoe will be signing the qualifier.
Getting Zoran may make Goran want to remain with the team a while longer. As the elder Dragic told Stein: "It means a lot to play with him. We don't see each other so often. OK, on Skype, but it's not the same. Now it's a perfect situation for us to play together with the national team. We can share the court and maybe do some damage [with the national team]. And hopefully someday we can play each other in the NBA."
