Watch the Voice's Jordan Smith Being Interviewed by Rick Warren At Saddleback Church
A little over a week after Jordan Smith took home the crown for Season 9's "The Voice," Smith was invited to sing at Rick Warren's Saddleback Community Church. Smith sang his signature #1 Billboard Hot Christian hit "Mary, Did You Know" at the megachurch. Later, Smith was interviewed by Pastor Warren (see interview video below).
Smith is not only the son of a pastor, but he's a committed Christian whoattends the Church of God church where he leads worship. "I've grown so close to the Lord," Smith said. "I try to walk with Him every day. I try to direct my thoughts toward Him because He has been so good to me."
Rick Warren, according to Christian Examiner, asked Smith about his experience with the faithfulness of God after playing a clip of him singing "Great is Thy Faithfulness" during The Voice.
"How has God not been faithful to me?" Smith said. "He's done so much for me. He has healed members of my family. He has healed me. But the greatest thing I ever received was my salvation. If He never did another thing for me in my entire life, than that is absolutely enough. Everything else is just an added bonus."
Smith also noted in the interview that he had committed to God that, "I never wanted to use His name to promote my position. I always wanted to use my position to promote His name and do whatever I could to make His name famous."
This week, Smith has 3 Top 10 hits on Billboard's Christian Song chart, a fleet never accomplished before. Smith's Christmas song "Mary Did You Know" debuts at #1. "Mary" joins Smith's covers of "Hallelujah" (No. 2) and "Great Is Thy Faithfulness" (No. 8) to give him a trio of titles in the top 10. Last week, he made chart history as the first act to have the Nos. 1 and 2 songs in the same week when "Hallelujah" was at the top with "Great" at #2. Smith is just the third (and first since 2009) to occupy three places in the top 10. The last act to manage the latter feat was Casting Crowns on Jan. 1, 2009.
